Rakhi Sawant to play Honeypreet in Ram Rahim’s biopic
Indian actress Rakhi Sawant says she will expose Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in a biopic in which she will star as the disgraced Dera Sacha Sauda sect chief’s adopted daughter Honeypreet Insan, who is believed to be now hiding in Nepal.
‘Yes, I’m playing Honeypreet as I have known her for seven to eight years. I know everything about her. I believe she is in London right now. My brother Rakesh Sawant and I are producing the film,’ Rakhi told IANS.
‘I’m in Delhi right now. We will be shooting here only. Our set will be exactly like his Sacha Sauda. I promise my audiences that ‘Main baba ki sab pol khol ke hi dum lungi’ (I will be relieved only after exposing him),’ she added.
The release date of the biopic is yet to be finalised.
The sect chief has been jailed since August 25 when he was convicted by the CBI court in Panchkula on two counts of rape of female disciples in 1999. He was then sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of over Rs 30 lakh.
Ranveer Singh as Kapil Dev will lead India to World Cup victory
Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh, who will be seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ambitious period drama Padmavati next, has already bagged another major project. The Befikre actor is all set to play cricketer Kapil Dev in 1983, a film that captures India’s surprise win over the mighty West Indies at the cricket World Cup.
Kabir Khan will direct the film. Taran Adarsh shared the news on Twitter and wrote, ‘#BreakingNews: Ranveer Singh will turn cricketer #KapilDev in Kabir Khan’s sports-based film... #1983 #WorldCup.’ This was the first World Cup win for India and the celebrations back home went on for weeks, reports the Hindustan Times.
While there was speculation regarding who will play Kapil’s role, Arjun Kapoor’s name was also in the running, Kair has now said that his first choice was Ranveer.
‘As a young schoolboy when I watched India win the 1983 Cricket World Cup. I had no idea that from that day onwards cricket in India will change forever. As a filmmaker, for me, the journey to that win, filled with raw energy and sheer passion of that young Indian team, is probably one of the most exciting stories I have worked on,’ he said, adding, ‘And it’s great to have Ranveer come on board to play Kapil Dev, as honestly I could see no one else for the role, ever since I started finalising the script.’
The director has already finished scripting the film, which will bring to light one of the most memorable events in the history of Indian cricket.
Titled 1983, the film is based on India’s unexpected victory at the cricket World Cup when Kapil was the Indian team captain. India not only won their first-ever World Cup, they ended West Indies’ domination in the limited-over format of the game. West Indies had won two consecutive editions of the World Cups in 1975 and 1979.
Talking to Wisden India, Kapil Dev had earlier said, ‘Everyone started saying that the West Indies were going to win it once again, for the third time. But I think we had something that no-one knew about. There was something up our sleeve — it was the self-confidence and the self-belief,’ Kapil added.
Written by National Award-winning director Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan, 1983 will be co-produced by Phantom Films and the founder and managing director of the Celebrity Cricket League (CCL), Vishnu Vardhan Induri.
Ranveer, who was last seen in Befikre, is currently gearing up for the release of Padmavati where he will be seen along with Deepika Padukone anmd Shahid Kapoor
Newton’ over ‘Baahubali’ for Oscars: What Rajamouli says
SS Rajamouli is not disappointed that his magnum opus ‘Baahubali 2: The Conclusion’ was not chosen as India’s official entry to the Oscars for the foreign language film category this year.
The filmmaker says his aim is to take stories to a wider audience, and making money for the team, instead of winning awards, reports the Indian Express.
‘(I am) Not at all (disappointed at losing out the race to Oscars this year). When I make a film, I never think about awards. It is not my aim. The aim is to first satisfy myself with the story and then next is to see that it reaches the maximum number of audience and makes money for everyone who has put their life in it,’ Rajamouli said.
‘That is my most important thing. If awards come, then I am happy. If they don’t, I don’t mind that because they are not at all my criteria,’ he added. ‘Newton’, a Hindi film set against the backdrop of elections in the world’s largest democracy, has been announced as India’s official entry for the foreign language film category at the Oscars. ‘Baahubali 2: The Conclusion’, which will have its TV premiere on Sony MAX on October 8, was also reportedly in contention.
Rajamouli attained global fame as the creator of the ‘Baahubali’ universe — which went on to become India’s biggest blockbuster with worldwide earnings of over Rs 900 crore. Starring Prabhas and Rana Daggubati as the male protagonists, the film’s story is about the battle for the ownership of an ancient kingdom between two brothers. The story is woven together in two parts with dance, music, emotion and drama. It also features Anushka Shetty, Ramya Krishnan, Tamannaah Bhatia and Sathyaraj.
The first part ‘Baahubali: The Beginning’ came out in 2015 and the second ‘Baahubali 2: The Conclusion’ was released earlier this year. The filmmaker says he is yet to come out of the ‘Baahubali’ spell. ‘It is quite a complicated spell that you cannot just say ‘Okay, I just got out of it’,’ said the filmmaker, who worked with Dharma Productions to help the film transcend language barriers. He said he was sure that the film will be successful, but its popularity in northern India stumped him.
‘The total budget of both the films was Rs 150 core. If we hadn’t expected that the film will do very well and aim good result — simple economics will point out that we would not have done the movie at all,’ he said. After the success of the franchise, Rajamouli says he has ‘lost a little bit of privacy in the northern belt as well’. ‘But nothing else has changed. I am as content as I was before the film released,’ the director said.
